He is both son and brother of hockey men: his father is Ivano Zanatta, coach and former player, while his older brother Michael and younger brother Alessandro are also former professionals. His career began in Switzerland in the HC Lugano youth ranks, but his best pages were written wearing the Cortina jersey, a club he played for from 2009 to 2014 and again from 2019 to 2024, winning a Coppa Italia (2011/2012), an Italian Championship (2022/2023) and an Italian Super Cup (2023). In 2014 he made his national team debut and also took part in two Top Division World Championships. In May 2025, in Romania, he was named best defenceman of the Division I Group A World Championship tournament, where Italy—after three years in the wilderness—secured the ticket back to the top tier. At Milano Cortina 2026 the road to an Olympic medal is long and winding, but he feels he is heading in the right direction.
