He is one of the pillars of the national team, with whom he has played in four Top Division World Championship editions. His father is Thomas Kostner, a former player in the Italian league and assistant coach of Italy’s junior teams. Developed in the HC Gherdëina youth system, in 2007 he moved to Switzerland and, at the end of the 2010/2011 season, earned the right to play in the National League A, joining Lugano’s first team. He stayed there until 2016, when he moved to Ambrì-Piotta, his current club. In May 2025 he travelled with Italy to the Division I Group A World Championships, bringing the Azzurri back to the top tier after a three-year absence. Despite being a busy athlete and father, especially in summer he manages to carve out free time, which he uses for another favourite activity: golf. He has always followed his path with determination and a desire to improve—the next stop is on the Olympic ice of Milano Cortina.
