Located in the San Siro district of Milan, the Milano San Siro Olympic Stadium will host the Opening Ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Originally inaugurated in 1926, the stadium has undergone several renovations over the decades, the most recent between 2015 and 2016. With a capacity of 76,000, it is Italy’s largest sports venue, and in 2026 it will mark its centenary by becoming an Olympic stadium for the first time.
Nicknamed the “Scala of Football”, San Siro is the legendary home ground of both Inter and AC Milan. It has hosted matches in two FIFA World Cups (1934 and 1990), UEFA Euro 1980, and the UEFA Nations League Final in 2021. It has also been the stage for four European Cup/Champions League finals and four UEFA Cup finals, confirming its status as one of the most iconic football stadiums in the world.
Beyond football, San Siro has also been used for rugby internationals, boxing events, and since the 1980s has become a major venue for live music, hosting an average of 15 concerts per year by both Italian and international artists.
