Medal events

In 2026, Olympic bobsleigh events will be held on the ice track of the Cortina Sliding Centre in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The four-man and two-man events have long been part of the Olympic programme, debuting at Chamonix 1924 and Lake Placid 1932 respectively. The women’s two-woman event was introduced in Salt Lake City 2002, with the most recent addition - the women’s monobob - making its debut at Beijing 2022.
Italy boasts two standout figures in the history of the sport. Gerda Weissensteiner remains the only Italian athlete to have won Olympic medals in two different disciplines: gold in luge singles at Lillehammer 1994 and bronze in the two-woman bobsleigh with Jennifer Isacco at Turin 2006. She shares the national record for most Winter Olympic appearances (six) with lugers Wilfried Huber and Armin Zöggeler, and snowboarder Roland Fischnaller.
Another legendary name is Eugenio Monti, who secured an extraordinary six Olympic medals. His crowning achievements came at Grenoble 1968, where he won gold in both the two-man event - alongside Luciano De Paolis - and the four-man competition with De Paolis, Roberto Zandonella and Mario Armano.
