Located in Bormio, the Stelvio Ski Centre will host the men’s alpine skiing events at Milano Cortina 2026, as well as the Olympic debut of ski mountaineering. At its heart lies the Stelvio piste, one of the most demanding alpine courses in the world—regarded as the most technical alongside Kitzbühel’s famed Streif.

Inaugurated in 1982 for the first edition of the World Series, the Stelvio has twice hosted the Alpine World Championships—in 1985 and 2005. A regular stop on the Men’s Alpine Skiing World Cup since 1993, it features a classic downhill every year, sometimes joined by a Super-G. The venue also staged the World Cup Finals in 1995 and 2008, and has occasionally welcomed women’s races as well.

The course stretches over 3,250 metres with a vertical drop of 1,010 metres. The downhill start is located at 2,255 metres on Monte Vallecetta, with a maximum gradient of 63%. In certain sections, skiers reach speeds of over 140 km/h, finishing at 1,245 metres, just steps from Bormio’s town centre.

Italy’s Dominik Paris is the most successful skier on this piste, claiming seven victories across downhill and Super-G. Also born in Bormio and a proud daughter of the Valtellina region is Deborah Compagnoni—Italy’s most decorated female alpine skier. Flagbearer at Lillehammer 1994, she remains the only athlete in alpine skiing history to win three Olympic golds across three different Games.
