Nestled at 1,600 metres above sea level in Anterselva di Sopra, near the tranquil Lake Anterselva, the Anterselva Biathlon Arena stands as a crown jewel of the Dolomites and the premier biathlon facility in Italy. Inaugurated in 1971 and modernised in 2006, the venue has undergone further upgrades in preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympics. A new section of track has been constructed above the shooting range, providing a dramatic final loop for the athletes during their races.

A permanent fixture on the Biathlon World Cup circuit since its very first season in 1977/78, Anterselva is widely regarded as one of the most advanced biathlon venues in the world, rivalling the iconic German sites of Ruhpolding and Oberhof. It has hosted the Biathlon World Championships on six occasions—1975, 1976, 1983, 1995, 2007, and 2020—a record matched by few.

The venue boasts 60 kilometres of trails, allowing elite athletes and amateur enthusiasts to train year-round, including summer sessions on roller skis. The grandstand in Anterselva is arguably the most iconic on the World Cup circuit, while the Huberalm, another legendary spot along the course, draws thousands of passionate fans each year eager to witness the athletes up close.

A fertile ground for talent, the Anterselva valley has produced numerous Olympic medallists. Among them is Dorothea Wierer, Italy’s most decorated biathlete, with three Olympic bronze medals to her name. Dominik Windisch, also a triple Olympic bronze medallist, joins a proud lineage that includes Johann Passler, Andreas Zingerle, and Gottlieb Taschler, who together clinched bronze in the men’s relay at Calgary 1988.
